Back in November last year I was honoured to be part of capturing a surprise engagement. My dear friend Kelly had been approached by her friend Josh, asking if she could capture this once in a lifetime moment. Kel and I were chatting that afternoon and as we caught us, she shared her excitement but nervousness at the magnitude of the task. I flippantly said how cool it would be to be a part of the night and she jumped at my throw away line. "Yes! Come!" she said. "Really?" replied I. That was all it took. She called the groom to be who was all, 'the more the merrier!' and it was on. I had 30mins to get ready (luckily the batteries were already charged!) and took the long drive across town to my friend's place, then further still to Mickleham where a perfect scene was set for the surprise. It felt like something out of Country Style magazine! As we drove to their property, the clouds were ominously black and we weren't sure how we'd go. But in the end, we needn't have worried. Josh asked and Emma said yes... then we revealed ourselves. Congratulations lovely Emma and Josh! It was so much fun to witness this special moment.

We had this session booked in and for the week before had been watching the weather forecast closely. On the day, the radar was looking a bit questionable, but with two families involved, and a can do attitude we set off. I am always happy to reschedule sessions due to weather or ill health, but this time we were all eager to have a go with the option of a take 2 if needed.
What struck me throughout this session was the way that the younger cousins looked up to their big ones as a source of fun, safety and snacks! ;) What is not to love about an afternoon like this? Autumn leaves, golden light, gorgeous dogs and two families coming together to celebrate one of their favourite people. I have to say that by the time we had finished, I was wishing I had a Gum Gum too (isn't that just the best name?)!
As usual, I completely overdelivered on the number of photos provided which is just fine by me. Enjoy the fun that is this gorgeous crew. Finishing grade 6 is a huge milestone, particularly for the class of 2021 who had an interrupted final two years of primary schooling. With these two besties headed to different high schools, their mums thought that gifting them a shoot to celebrate their friendship was in order. I couldn't agree more!
D and E were so full of life, positivity, energy, fun and support for each other! Growing up, but still loving embracing their matchy matchy outfits. I'm sure these two are destined for great things. When Graeme and his boys welcomed Georgie, the golden retriever to their family, they contacted me to have some updated photos taken. I have been photographing the boys for most of their lives now so meeting this new, foofy family member was pretty exciting. :)
A family celebration can be so much fun to capture. When I was asked to attend a wedding anniversary for an extended family and some of their closest friends I was thrilled to say yes.
How precious to have the afternoon captured so you can enjoy the time and not worry about who is taking the photos! The family were able to casually hang out with each other as I went about snapping and we managed to take some relaxed family photos too for each group there. Here is just a small snippet of what was taken on the day. (Note: consent has been given for these photos to be shared). Wendy Neilson is a Melbourne based artist who reached out to me to have some photos taken in her new studio space. There's something full of life and energy watching an artist at work, as they mix and drag the paint around a canvas and create a new work before your eyes. Just quietly, I'm a little in love with her space... so many old and interesting things mixed with the newness of art and the fresh growth of plants!
Is there anything as precious as a new baby? I don't think so. 😊
This little bubba was welcomed into his family by his mum and dad and very eager big sister and brothers! Meeting them in their home when Michel was only days old and still super fresh and squishy meant lots of gorgeous snugly shots and watching his siblings fall in love with him. Sally was the winner of my 2 year celebration giveaway and back in October we shot her session. Sally, along with Chloe and Jack, sporting their holiday glow, were totally comfortable in front of the camera being themselves. There was lots of talking about their recent time away and snuggles abounded! I was really delighted when Sally's number came up as the winner of this session- a most deserving winner!
I'm so fortunate in this job that I get to watch many families grow over time. This has been the case with this gorgeous family. I first photographed little Alex when he was brand new, then again when he was a cute toddler and once more now that he has welcomed his little sister Eve.
Taking photos in their home meant that everyone was comfortable, including Cassie the dog! There were toys that I had to be shown and I know that these guys will love looking back on this stage of life as they have since moved house! Thank you for trusting me once more with your gorgeous tribe! |
