Extended family session: for Gum Gum

What is not to love about an afternoon like this? Autumn leaves, golden light, gorgeous dogs and two families coming together to celebrate one of their favourite people. I have to say that by the time we had finished, I was wishing I had a Gum Gum too (isn't that just the best name?)!
As usual, I completely overdelivered on the number of photos provided which is just fine by me. Enjoy the fun that is this gorgeous crew.

BFF session

Finishing grade 6 is a huge milestone, particularly for the class of 2021 who had an interrupted final two years of primary schooling. With these two besties headed to different high schools, their mums thought that gifting them a shoot to celebrate their friendship was in order. I couldn't agree more!
D and E were so full of life, positivity, energy, fun and support for each other! Growing up, but still loving embracing their matchy matchy outfits. I'm sure these two are destined for great things.

Autumn extended family session

When a husband or wife contacts me to arrange a surprise gift for the other, I get extra excited! This time, the family and I met in a beautiful park in Surrey Hills. The light was golden and the leaves gloriously crunchy. They were just right for throwing and rolling in! With grandparents, parents and a very special auntie, we made sure that every relationship was captured.
I love this feedback from the session- "I think in the years to come as we look at the photos, we'll remember the fun we had as a family as well as having the amazing photos as a tangible reminder." THIS is what I aim for. All the time.

The Wilson Family- lifestyle session

What a gorgeous family this is! Karen and Mark are the wonderful parents of little Liam.
We met in their home on a freezing and very wet Sunday afternoon for the first part of their lifestyle session. We had planned to venture to Canterbury Gardens afterwards however we weren't overly optimistic that the weather would allow it. Amazingly, after a peaceful time at home, relaxing on the couch, enjoying tummy time and some milk before a nap (for Liam, not us!), the weather cleared and we raced out to take advantage of it.
Lots of snuggling to keep warm, enjoying the glorious light and the last of the autumn leaves together and our time together was complete.
I love lifestyle sessions and being able to capture such different feels in two locations.

Lifestyle Session Launch

A couple of weeks back I set out on a personal project called A Week in the Life. It is inspired by a memory keeper called Ali Edwards.
Ali explains A Week in the Life as "a seven-day documentary project that began in 2005 as an annual opportunity to capture the simple everyday details of life with photos and words. These albums are some of my most treasured in that they are wonderfully true representations of my family's life at a particular point in time. From the mundane to the profound, it's those simple little everyday moments that I treasure most."
This project involves me photographing life for us as a family- where we spend our time, what makes us tick, what we do, what we see, where we live, where we go, who we see and who we are...

It has highlighted the importance of photographing the everyday simple moments in our life.

I have always loved the power of images to take me back in time.
Life may appear to be the same, day in and out, but when I stand back and look back at this project over time, I notice things in my photos that I would otherwise forget.
Things like how we read to our kids each night, where we eat, little quirks that belong to each of our children, how we have set up furniture in our home and the reasons why, how the kids run to greet my mum in the street when she visits and how they play the letterbox game every day. The games they play, how their bedrooms look, the ways that we fill our days.

These are the elements of our everyday that I love.
They are the elements of our everyday that will likely change in the next 12 months.
They are the everyday moments that people rarely think to capture.
They are also the moments which will be most missed when the children are grown.

I love taking photos of people in the exciting moments of their lives and I love taking relaxed family portraits in outdoor locations. I still want to do this. Lots! But this project has lit a fire in my belly.
I mentioned on my facebook page last week that I would love to shoot more lifestyle sessions.

A lifestyle session involves me coming into a place that you love. A place that is special to your family. It is often your home but it can also be a cafe where you always have breakfast on a weekend or a beach where you feel most connected. Over an hour or two, I simply take photos as an observer of your life. Of your 'everyday'. Of the big and the small. At the end of the session, you are given a collection of unique photographs that feature you and your loved ones, doing life in your natural habitat. The focus is on documenting your life and space how it is now and on capturing the connection in your family.

As I develop a portfolio of these sessions I will be offering a special introductory price of $350.
If you would like to discuss a session like this I'd love to chat with you!

Giggles Galore

I had such fun photographing these guys- I'm not sure that I've giggled so much in a session before! Parents, Sonia and David with their children Bella and Ben were so full of energy and spunk which lead to a wonderfully energetic session. Some special moments were captured when we took a breather from all the laughing and games during our session too. What a treasure to remember this session and this lovely family tonight.

December 2015 Mini Sessions

17/2/2016

Back in December I offered a limited number of mini-sessions in the lead up to Christmas.
It so happened that two sisters booked in and we made the most of taking some photos of them together for the start.

It was such a pleasure to photograph and get to know this this beautiful family for a mini-shoot back in December.  From the moment we met it was fun and relaxed, with El keen to show me her dinosaur and get started with the photos! Pat was full of gorgeous smiles and I just LOVE the cuddly moments that were captured between the kids and their loving parents.

Caroline and little Nina were so easy to capture as well. Those beautiful eyes and smiles from both girls were so delightful to see and photograph. I especially love being able to get mums and their children in photographs together as so often they are the ones capturing everyone else.
