I can't describe how very lucky I felt back in January to meet little Mitchell at only 4 days old.
Each baby is a miracle but this little guy comes after many years of waiting by his patient and loving parents. I can tell that this family already has quite the cheer squad, and deservedly so! Mitch is so wanted, so loved and simply adorable! I was able to photograph this new little family in the quiet comfort of home. It was so fun to be around such a new little person again. I got to enjoy some cuddles and rocks as he settled into sleep and rest and waited patiently as he fed, was wrapped and changed. Enjoy some photos of this little man and his favourite two people.

This beautiful family and I met together for a lifestyle session, beginning in their home and then taking a happy stroll to a nearby park where their young daughter enjoyed some people watching and the feeling of the breeze on her skin. Her chubby, rosy cheeks had me won over immediately and then the smiles started. It will be wonderful to watch this gorgeous girl grow.
Just before school started, in those dreamy days of summer holiday catch ups with friends and having no schedule, I got to spend some time with a gorgeous family and their new kitten, Cinder. She arrived in December, so there was plenty of time for her to settle into her new home with her humans and dog brother. Her girl owners are a bit smitten by their new family member. My daughter was equally so! It was hard to leave this little bundle behind! Pets are such a big part of your family. Make sure that you include them in your next home session.
When I met fellow photographer Janine Ward online, I was impressed by her beautiful landscape photography. I was also excited to see that she was branching into portrait sessions and that we had a similar style. I decided to send her a message and see if she may be interested in photographing each others family- a swap. An opportunity to connect with a fellow photographer and update our own family photos. I was obviously over the moon when she replied saying that she'd love to do it.
We met on the Cup Weekend and spent a leisurely hour or two at The Briars in Mornington, getting to know each other and capturing life as it happened. Meet The Ward Family... When Father's Day was approaching, this mum had the great idea of booking in a shoot of their gorgeous boys for her husband. Mum even snuck in on a few of the shots. What dad wouldn't want some up to date beautiful photos of his favourites on his wall and desk?
This is me, just the other morning, enjoying sunrise in Fiji! :) I've had a glorious 10 nights away with my immediate and extended family and now we're back in 'on the way to Springy' Melbourne!
Today is also the 1 year anniversary of Beck Holder Photography. This day last year was my official launch! I've loved getting to photograph so many gorgeous people this year and I'm excited to keep going from here. Thank you for your support and trust in me this year. xx It was such a delight to meet with this family. Rachel and Luke were so relaxed in welcoming me into their home, little Ben was happy to go with the flow and Alice, with her sparkly and fun personality was ready to direct us all! :)
We chatted, played and enjoyed a dance performance from Alice at home before heading to one of their favourite local cafes for their regular coffees and treats. I love documenting this everyday stuff for families. It is a great reminder always to me that there is beauty in the everyday and to snuggle into those that we love. I love the beach in winter. In fact, despite the cold, the wet and the mess that it brings, winter is a beautiful time to be outside and updating the family photos. I took my own advice last weekend.
We bundled our little two into their snuggly gear and took off for a few nights of being sandy and away from home. While there I got out my camera and snapped some new photos of my kids. So good for the soul! A couple of weeks back I set out on a personal project called A Week in the Life. It is inspired by a memory keeper called Ali Edwards. Ali explains A Week in the Life as "a seven-day documentary project that began in 2005 as an annual opportunity to capture the simple everyday details of life with photos and words. These albums are some of my most treasured in that they are wonderfully true representations of my family's life at a particular point in time. From the mundane to the profound, it's those simple little everyday moments that I treasure most." This project involves me photographing life for us as a family- where we spend our time, what makes us tick, what we do, what we see, where we live, where we go, who we see and who we are... It has highlighted the importance of photographing the everyday simple moments in our life. I have always loved the power of images to take me back in time. Life may appear to be the same, day in and out, but when I stand back and look back at this project over time, I notice things in my photos that I would otherwise forget. Things like how we read to our kids each night, where we eat, little quirks that belong to each of our children, how we have set up furniture in our home and the reasons why, how the kids run to greet my mum in the street when she visits and how they play the letterbox game every day. The games they play, how their bedrooms look, the ways that we fill our days. These are the elements of our everyday that I love. They are the elements of our everyday that will likely change in the next 12 months. They are the everyday moments that people rarely think to capture. They are also the moments which will be most missed when the children are grown. I love taking photos of people in the exciting moments of their lives and I love taking relaxed family portraits in outdoor locations. I still want to do this. Lots! But this project has lit a fire in my belly. I mentioned on my facebook page last week that I would love to shoot more lifestyle sessions. A lifestyle session involves me coming into a place that you love. A place that is special to your family. It is often your home but it can also be a cafe where you always have breakfast on a weekend or a beach where you feel most connected. Over an hour or two, I simply take photos as an observer of your life. Of your 'everyday'. Of the big and the small. At the end of the session, you are given a collection of unique photographs that feature you and your loved ones, doing life in your natural habitat. The focus is on documenting your life and space how it is now and on capturing the connection in your family. As I develop a portfolio of these sessions I will be offering a special introductory price of $350.
If you would like to discuss a session like this I'd love to chat with you! This family... Warm. Loving. Fun. Joyful. Cheeky. It was such a pleasure to be in their presence and to capture a snippet of the love and closeness that they share. There was cuddling and dancing. Hiding and chasing. Quiet and loud. Tickles and stillness.
We made a last minute change of location due to threatening weather and I am so glad that we did. Our new setting was gorgeous and suited these little girls perfectly! I loved photographing and editing this session and by the end I felt like I'd made some new friends. xx |
